An in-depth volcano experience on the Island of Hawaii by your National Park Certified Guide will share a mix of natural and cultural history about the island’s formation, illuminating the stories behind the ever-changing landscape of our island home.
Kīlauea is experiencing episodic eruptive activity beginning December 23rd 2024, with intermittent lava flows and explosive fountains followed by pauses of varying lengths within the safety of the Halemaʻumaʻu Crater. At times, there is a spectacular show to view, but at other times no lava or glow is visible from overlooks. Volcanic conditions are highly variable and may change without warning.
The tour begins from one of our various pick up points in Kona, Waikoloa, and Kohala Coast resorts. From there we enjoy a scenic ride up the coastline through the quaint towns of Captain Cook, Naalehu, and Pahala. We arrive at the Volcano National Park to enjoy a day in nature.
Now the adventure begins! On this in-depth park experience, your interpretive guide will illuminate the historical events that changed the landscape of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. We then enjoy 2-3 miles of hiking around the park’s dynamic terrain.
For a grande finale, we’ll also visit a large private lava tube known for its bright yellow and gold microbial mats living on the cave walls. This lava tube is only accessible to our guests.
