Our certified guides will accompany you on a paddle across the calm waters of Kealakekua Bay while we share the interesting and rich Hawaiian and natural history of the area. We’ll keep an eye out for Nai’a (Hawaiian spinner dolphins) which frequent the area and sometimes put on a show, and whales (in season).
Once across the Bay we land our kayaks along the protected shoreline of Ka’awaloa we snorkel what is considered one of the most pristine reefs in the world and take in the abundant marine life which includes over 200 species of reef fish and sometimes turtles, eels, reef sharks, and rays.
We’ll then treat you to a healthy lunch and refreshments and take some time to visit Captain Cook's monument where your expert guide will tell stories about his experience in Hawaii.

Come to the meeting location in Kealakekua. We will provide a thorough orientation, review marine life conservation rules, review your equipment and help you load all of the gear.
After leaving Kona Boys you will drive yourself down to Kealakekua Bay to the county boat ramp located at the end of Kahauloa Rd. Here you will unload your gear and outfit the kayak. Once the car is unloaded, find parking along the side of the road in the adjacent neighborhood. Parking is limited and the community is highly impacted by those visiting the bay, so please be conscientious and make sure to pull all the way off the side of the road and be sure not to partially block any driveways.
After enjoying a beautiful paddle and some snorkeling in Kealakekua Bay, you will return to the area where you launched the vessel, retrieve your car, and load all of the equipment to return to the shop. Rentals are good for a 24 hour period. If you do not get back to the shop before closure, you can return the next day.
Kayak and Paddle Board rentals in Kealakekua Bay are governed by a permitting system through Hawaii State Parks. Before deciding that a rental is right for you, please be aware that there are certain restrictions that apply to rental kayaks and SUPs that do not apply to guided tours. The most impactful of these differences is that you are not allowed to land rental vessels at Ka'awaloa ( the area where Captain Cooks Monument is). This means that snorkeling is done from the kayaks or paddle boards using a light tow-rope and that the equipment must be kept in your control as you snorkel.
The second noteable difference is that rentals for Kealakekua Bay utilize a different launching and landing area. Finally the biggest difference is that with rentals you are responsible for transporting, loading, and unloading all of the equipment. We highly recommend the guided tour as we feel there is a great value in having a guide with you to manage all of the logistics and provide valuable insight into the marine life, culture, and history.
