😷 Health & Safety

Mauka Makai Adventures has implemented the following policies for all participants on our tours. These policies follow federal, state and local regulations and are subject to change without notice. The health and safety of our guests, our family and island community is our top priority!

  • Proof of COVID-19 Vaccination - All travelers must provide proof of full vaccination from COVID-19 at check-in for the tour. Without it, you will not be allowed to participate in the tour! All tour guides are fully vaccinated.

  • Temperature Check and Health Questionnaire - A health questionnaire and temperature checks are mandatory prior to boarding the vehicle. Any guest with a temperature (99.9+ degrees), will not be allowed to participate in the tour. We will not permit anyone who is sick, has recently been sick or has tested positive for COVID-19 on the tour. We will work directly with you to cancel or reschedule your tour.

  • Face Masks - All guests are required to wear a face mask that covers the mouth and nose when traveling in the vehicle for the duration of the tour. Face masks may only be removed when outdoors in open air and social distancing of 6 feet or more can be maintained. We will ask you to carry your mask with you on trails in the national park. All guests must agree to follow guide instructions.

  • Hand Sanitizer - Hand sanitizer will be provided and available to all guests. All passengers must sanitize their hands before entering the vehicle.

  • Social Distancing - Tour group sizes have been reduced and guest time in the van has been minimized where possible. Social distancing of 6 feet or more is encouraged at all times outside.

  • Boarding and Seat Arrangements - Boarding will be done from the rear to front at each stop. Seat changes are not allowed for the duration of the tour. The front passenger seat will not be available for the safety of our guide and 'ohana.

  • Stringent Cleaning - All vehicles and supplies are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized with CDC approved sanitizers following every tour.

It is everyone's kuleana (responsibility) to practice everyday habits of cleanliness and malama (to care) for one another to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Please kokua (kindly help) and do your part while visiting our islands! Mahalo.

Kona Coast Sightseeing Tour

Location: Kona, Big Island

Visiting the Kona Coastline with a knowledgable tour guide is the best way to get an authentic experience and deep understanding of the historic town of Kailua-Kona. Experience vintage Hawaii along the waterfront of downtown Kona, rustic coffee plantations, historic sites of Kealakekua Bay and ancient Hawaiian heiau at a sacred place of refuge.

What to Expect

We begin your Kona tour in Kailua-Kona by heading down scenic Ali’i Drive along the waterfront scattered with white sand beaches and local surf breaks.

Next we visit Kaloko-Honokōhau National Historical Park and learn the history of an ancient Hawaiian fishpond site.

After that we head south along the Kona coffee belt corridor and stop at a local coffee farm for a tour and coffee tasting. Here your expert guide will explain the lengthy process of cultivating and producing the interesting bean into a delicious drink.

As we continue along you will take in the outstanding views of Kealakekua Bay, the marine life conservation district rich with aquatic life.

Here you will also see the famous Captain Cook monument and learn about the history of this brave British explorer who met his end here on the Big Island at the hands of the Hawaiians.

Next, we explore Pu’uhonua o Honaunau National Historical Park, a place of refuge and sacred Hawaiian cultural site. This site is scared with authentic tiki statues that stand as tall as a person.

During our drive back we enjoy views overlooking the scenic coastline on your way back to Kailua-Kona.

Transportation Included

Transportation is provided in either a 6 passenger mini-van or 14 passenger full-size van, all vehicles are clean and comfortable rides. Children are welcome when accompanied by an adult and must have proper safety seats as required by Hawai’i state law through age 7 (seats will be provided only upon request at time of booking)

We do provide transportation directly from Kona and Waikoloa Hotels and Kailua-Kona pier for cruise ship passengers.

Cancellation Policy

A FULL REFUND will be issued for any cancellation notice received 48 HOURS PRIOR to the start of the tour. Reservations cancelled less than 48 hours prior to the start of the tour will be charged in full. If your cruise ship cancels port or we have to cancel the tour due to extreme weather, we will issue you a full refund.

We reserve the right to adjust or cancel tours to ensure the safety of all of our guests.
