What to Expect

After pick up in Kona and Kohala area hotels, your day starts with a driving through the rolling green hills of Waimea and the historic Parker Ranch, one of the oldest and largest cattle ranches in the United States, where sprawling pastures and a rich paniolo (Hawaiian cowboy) heritage paint a unique picture of Hawaii's diverse cultural tapestry.

Your first stop is the breathtaking Waipio Valley Lookout (no descent into the valley), where the panoramic view spans from towering sea cliffs to a pristine, mile-long black sand beach, encapsulating the untamed beauty of Hawaii's landscape. Learn how the legendary King Kamehameha spent part of his youth in Waipio Valley, where he was trained in the ways of ancient Hawaiian warfare and leadership. This training played a crucial role in his development as a formidable warrior and a unifying leader of the Hawaiian Islands.

Next, we travel down the scenic Hamakua Coast to experience the enormous power of nature at Akaka Falls, where water cascades 442 feet down into a lush tropical gorge capturing the essence of Hawaii's natural beauty along the Hamakua Coast.

We then continue on to traverse the Hawaii Tropical Bioreserve & Garden, a verdant valley of over 2000 species of tropical plants. Explore nature trails, cross streams, and enjoy ocean vistas. This Garden is often described as a living tapestry of Hawaiian flora, echoing the islands' deep respect for nature and its spiritual connection to the land.

In the afternoon, enjoying a refreshing cool off with a swim under the Kulaniapia private Waterfall. As you approach the 120-foot-tall cascading falls, the sound of rushing water creates a natural symphony, inviting you to a refreshing swim. The cool, crystal-clear waters, surrounded by lush greenery, offer a tranquil escape from the world above.

After that, we head through Historic Hilo Town to marvel at the enchanting Rainbow Falls, an 80-foot wonder where a kaleidoscope of colors dances in the mist against a backdrop of a majestic banyan tree. This natural marvel is steeped in Hawaiian folklore, said to be the home of Hina, the moon goddess, adding a mystical allure to its already breathtaking beauty.

The adventure ends with the return to Kona or Kohala Coast resorts via Saddle Road nestled between the world’s tallest sea mountain, Mauna Kea, and the world’s most massive active volcano Mauna Loa, offering spectacular views.
