Quick Local Tip: Lessons take place at Kaihuna Beach in Poipu, where exceptionally clear water and a shallow bottom create aquarium-like visibility. Pause on your board between sets and you’ll often see yellow tangs, moorish idols, and other tropical reef fish gliding directly beneath you.

What to Expect

Your lesson begins on a grassy lawn just steps from the shoreline, where your instructor will cover the fundamentals of paddling, wave selection, popping up, stance, and ocean safety. With your board beside you, you'll practice the techniques you'll soon use in the water, making it easy to build confidence before heading into the surf. Beach instruction lasts about 20–25 minutes before it's time to paddle out.

Once in the ocean, your instructor stays right by your side, helping you position your board, time each wave, and offering real-time coaching with every attempt. Most students are riding waves within their first few tries, and it's hard to beat the feeling of standing up for the first time as your instructor cheers you all the way to shore. Lessons last approximately 90 minutes and take place in gentle, beginner-friendly waves chosen specifically for learning.

All equipment is provided, and small class sizes ensure every student receives plenty of personal attention. Whether you choose a group, semi-private, or private lesson, you'll leave with a new appreciation for Hawaii's surfing culture and the unforgettable memory of catching your first Hawaiian wave.

Group Lesson: Ages 8+
