Discovery and Refresher Scuba Dive in Kaanapali

Location: Ka'anapali, Maui

Whether you’re trying scuba for the first time or brushing up on your skills after time away, these dive options in Kaanapali offers the perfect solution. Designed for both beginners and certified divers in need of a refresher, this small-group beach dive focuses on safety, comfort, and personal attention without the need for a crowded boat or full-day commitment.

Dive directly from the shoreline into the warm waters of West Maui, just minutes from major resorts in Lahaina, Kaanapali, and Kapalua. Intro and Refresher divers can participate together, making this an ideal choice for couples, families, or mixed-experience groups.

What to Expect

You'll meet your instructor at a beach park near Kaanapali, chosen for its calm conditions and reef access. After getting fitted with gear, the session begins with a comprehensive safety briefing. The group will then be divided based on certification level:

The intro dive is a beginner-level dive for non-certified participants aged 10 and up. No experience is needed, but you must be a proficient swimmer and in generally good health.

You’ll start in shallow water with hands-on instruction, learning how to breathe underwater, clear your mask, equalize pressure, and manage your gear. Your instructor will guide you through each skill patiently, ensuring you're fully comfortable before heading deeper. Once ready, you’ll take a slow descent to explore the nearby reef, home to sea turtles, butterflyfish, and vibrant corals. Expect up to 45 minutes underwater, depending on air use and comfort level. It’s a safe, controlled environment designed for beginners to enjoy the beauty of scuba diving with confidence.

Scuba Refresher Course – For Certified Divers

If it’s been over a year since your last dive or if you have limited logged dives, this Refresher Course is strongly recommended. It’s a quick, effective way to get reacquainted with key skills, fine-tune your buoyancy, and get dive-ready for the rest of your Maui trip.

After a brief review and Q&A, you’ll complete a few essential skills in shallow water, followed by a full guided dive alongside the group. Certified divers in the refresher group are not required to repeat the full intro lesson but will join their companions once cleared.
