Haleakala Downhill Bike Tour

This is the classic Haleakala Downhill bike route with an added bonus, we give our guests top of the line bikes, making it the most exciting ride in the industry.

We call this the "Cycle to the Sea" tour consists of a 32 mile downhill bike ride down Haleakala. Starts at 6700 feet above sea level. Ends at Baldwin Beach. 28 miles will be coasting downhill, 4 miles of light pedaling.

We use top of the line Trek Hybrid bikes with 24 speeds and thinner tires. This makes for a much safer allowing for smoother ride, faster turns, and overall more fun!

What to Expect

Your Maui Bike Tour begins with a comfortable and informative 30 minute drive to the Kula Lodge, where we’ll make a brief 15 minute restroom and gift shop stop. Also, we will provide you snacks along the way to keep your energy levels high during the ride.

Then, we drive another 30 minutes up scenic slopes of the Haleakala Volcano, to an elevation of 6700 feet above sea level. Here we will get the bikes ready, go over safety and rules. Then the fun begins as it is time to ride the mountain!

Your downhill Maui bike ride begins at the top of Haleakala Ranch. During the first 7 miles we will be descending 2000ft while twisting and turning through 19 switchbacks and hairpin turns and long flowing straight aways.

The second portion of the bike ride is the longest. Starting again from top of the ranch, we bike 15 miles, through the ranch and some of the most picturesque towns on Maui, the towns of Kula and Makawao. This stretch is mostly downhill and when we stop in Makawao, we’ll be at an elevation of 1700 feet above sea level.

Once in Makawao, we take about a 30 minute break where you will have a little time to check out this unique historical town and use rest rooms if needed.

After this break, it’s back on the bikes for the final stretch. An 8 mile downhill coast, passing pineapple fields and sugar cane fields . We’ll bike through the town of Paia and end the journey at the beach, Baldwin Beach Park.

After some high fives, fist bumps, and hugs, you’ll be more than welcome to dip in the ocean to cool off, take some pictures, and just enjoy the beauty of the area. We’ll then get you back to Kihei and Wailea and say our Alohas.

Small Group Size

While the other companies will max out with 13 bikers per group. Maui Bombers only rides with 6 at the most. This means a faster and more fluid bike ride. Smaller groups are more personal, more fun, and more space in the van! We have the same 15 passenger van as the other companies, but with a max of 6, it’s like luxury.
