Quick Local Tip: Don't be surprised when you arrive and don't see a sandy beach. Kahaluʻu's rocky shoreline and shallow reef create a rolling, gentle break, creating one of Kona's best places for beginners to learn. The included reef shoes make walking to and from the water much more comfortable.

What to Expect

Your lesson begins with an easy-to-follow land session where your instructor covers paddling, safety, wave timing, and the pop-up technique, giving you the confidence to head into the water knowing exactly what to expect.

Once you're in the surf, your instructor stays by your side, helping you catch waves, offering personalized coaching, and encouraging you with every attempt. Whether you're joining a small group, learning semi-private alongside family and friends, or enjoying one-on-one instruction, the focus is on building confidence at your own pace in a fun and supportive environment.

Then comes the moment everyone remembers. You paddle, feel the wave lift beneath you, pop to your feet, and suddenly you're gliding across the water under your own power. It's a feeling that's equal parts excitement, accomplishment, and pure joy and for many visitors, it becomes one of the defining memories of their time in Hawaii.

Customers will receive a full refund with 24 hours notice of cancellation. Customers will also receive a full refund in case of operator cancellation due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances. Contact us by the phone number in the confirmation email you will receive after booking to cancel or inquire about a cancellation. No-shows will be charged the full price.
