Float beneath the Kona night sky as giant manta rays glide, loop, and barrel roll through illuminated waters, passing so close beneath you that the boundary between spectator and participant begins to disappear.
Quick Local Tip: Many first-time guests worry about the night swim, but the experience is more accessible than it looks. After a short swim from the boat to the floating light raft, you'll hold onto the platform while a pool noodle supports your legs, allowing you to float comfortably. All you have to do is breathe, relax, and watch the manta rays glide beneath you.
Depart from Honokōhau Harbor and cruise into the Pacific as the sun begins to set along the Kona Coast. During the ride, the crew shares insights about Kona's resident manta rays while the sky transitions from golden hour into twilight.
Once darkness settles in, you'll enter the water and gather around a specially designed floating light raft. The underwater lights create a glowing column that attracts plankton, turning the dark ocean into a brightly illuminated feeding zone beneath you. As you float comfortably on the surface, anticipation builds with every shadow moving through the glow.
Then the mantas arrive. Drawn by the concentrated plankton, they begin gliding effortlessly through the light, often passing within arm's length as they perform graceful loops and somersaults beneath the raft. Their enormous wingspans and surprisingly gentle movements create an encounter that feels both thrilling and peaceful. By the end of the night, you'll have shared the water with one of Hawaii's most remarkable marine animals in a setting few places in the world can offer.

A MUST DO! Is what we were told. Everyone local or not said the Manta Ray Snorkeling is a bucket list experience, and boy were they right! Staff was wonderful, helpful and knowledgeable. And I got lucky to be kissed by a Manta Ray (many came so close.
