What to Expect

Start your morning at Makena Landing, where your guide outfits you with kayaking and snorkeling gear before a relaxed introduction to paddling, ocean safety, and the morning's route. After a short lesson on shore, you'll launch into the calm waters of South Maui just as the ocean begins to come alive.

Every paddle stroke carries you farther into Maui's winter whale nursery, where humpback whales gather each year to mate, give birth, and raise their calves. Sitting just inches above the water, every sighting feels magnified. A distant blow quickly becomes the towering back of a whale. A gentle roll becomes a massive tail rising into the air. Then comes the unmistakable sound of a whale exhaling. A deep, thunderous breath that echoes across the water and reminds you just how enormous these animals really are.

After spending time with the whales, the adventure continues along Makena's rugged volcanic coastline. Paddle through Turtle Town, where Hawaiian green sea turtles frequently surface beside your kayak before gliding effortlessly beneath the crystal-clear water. Your guide then leads a relaxed snorkel over the reef, where colorful tropical fish, coral gardens, and sea turtles create one final unforgettable encounter before enjoying fresh Hawaiian pineapple back on shore.
