What to Expect

Check in 30 minutes before your tour at the Kapalua Bay meeting point, where your guides will greet you and help with gear fitting. After signing waivers and storing any small belongings, you’ll be provided with a life jacket, snorkel mask, and fins. Optional rentals like GoPro cameras, wetsuit tops, and rash guards are also available for those who want to enhance their experience.

Before heading into the water, the crew leads a safety briefing and a short orientation, including a 10-minute educational video from the Coral Reef Institute. You’ll learn hand signals for underwater communication, along with clear instructions on how to operate your Yamaha sea scooter. The guides also explain the route you’ll follow and the key features of the coral reef ecosystem you’ll be exploring.

Once in the water, the sea scooter does the work for you, pulling you gently across Kapalua Bay’s calm, turquoise waters. With minimal effort, you can dive down to explore coral alcoves or simply cruise at the surface, taking in the views of reef formations and schools of tropical fish. The bay is home to parrotfish, butterflyfish, spotted eagle rays, and the graceful Hawaiian green sea turtle, which are often seen grazing along the reefs.

Throughout the two-hour guided snorkel, your group stays together as your guide points out unique marine life and explains the importance of coral reef conservation.
