The creation of Maui Spearfishing Academy (MSA) stems from a rich passion for both the sport of fishing, as well as a love for the reef and its inhabitants throughout the Hawaiian Islands. For over 40 years, the Twitchell family has been active in recreational diving and fishing on West Maui. Bobby Twitchell, the founder of MSA and Maui native, learned to recognize the nearby coastline as a renewable source of food and fun.

Having earned a degree in Education from Arizona State University, Bobby knew he could combine his love for the Hawaiian waters and extensive knowledge in the sport of spear fishing to teach people how to spearfish. Through the combined efforts of the Twitchell family, their friends and the most respected spear fishing supply store on West Maui; “All About Fish”, MSA was born.
