What to Expect

Depart Lāhainā Harbor aboard a spacious sailing catamaran and head into the waters surrounding Maui in search of humpback whales during their seasonal return to Hawaiʻi.

As the boat searches, certified marine naturalists help turn what you see into a deeper understanding of the whales. Learn about migration, behavior, biology, and the research conducted in these waters while watching for blows, tail flukes, surface activity, and other signs of whales nearby.

When conditions allow, the crew sails and may lower an underwater hydrophone so you can listen for humpback whale songs carrying beneath the surface. Families can also take advantage of the onboard Jr. Naturalist Program, giving younger guests another way to engage with the wildlife and science behind the experience.

The route and sailing conditions vary with the day, allowing the crew to respond to both the whales and the ocean rather than following a rigid path. Whale sightings are guaranteed by the operator, with another trip offered if no whales are seen.

Sunset Whale Watch Option

A sunset departure is also available, combining seasonal Maui whale watching with the changing evening light on the water. It follows the same wildlife-focused approach while adding the atmosphere of a late-day sail.
