Lihue Beach Surf Lessons

The Kauai Beach Boys have been teaching surfing since 1983 on Kauai’s best learning beach, Kalapaki Beach. Learn how to paddle and balance on your board and master the basics. We offer small classes, expert surf instructors, and the best gear including a board, leash and rash guard. With gentle trade winds and the protection of Kalapaki Bay, the surf is always friendly!

What to Expect

After checking in at our beach shack located on Kalapaki Beachwalk you will be introduced to your surf instructor. From there you will learn a brief but helpful on-land lesson that will teach you the fundamentals of paddling, catching, and stand up on your surf board.

From there, we launch the surfboards into the water and your guide will assist you in paddling out to the breaking waves. Because Kalapaki Bay has such a large and calm channel, it is easy to get into position without much effort.

Next, you surf instructor will help you choose the best wave to ride. The instructor will then give you a gentle push so that your board begins to gently glide with the wave. Now all you have to do is stand up and enjoy the thrill of surfing. Then paddle back out to your instructor, and do it again and again for the remainder of your lesson.
