8-9 hours from Pick up to Drop off; 0-12 miles Round Trip, 0-3,000 ft. elevation gain; Easy - Difficult
For the brave few looking for it all, this is the tour for you! With the whole day ahead of us, we will be able to access remote locations, engage in extensive exploration, and/or combine multiple hikes/viewpoints. Hike as much or as little as you want. There are many days’ worth of roads and trails to explore, enough options to create the perfect adventure! This Hawaiian adventure through Waimea and Kōkeʻe State Parks offers up the very best Kaua'i has to offer. Challenging hikes and/or secluded locations and plenty of tropical island scenery await your every turn.
We'll pick you up from your accommodation so you can ;et your comfortable coach drive you through the vast farmland and rolling hills of Western Kaua'i. We will pass through the agricultural towns of Hanapēpē and Waimea, once important hubs in the burgeoning sugar industry which began on Kaua’i in 1835, ending in 2010. As recent as the 1980’s Hawai’i was using some 220,000 acres of farmland to produce 1.1 million tons of sugar annually. Fields of cane stretched as far as the eye can see, “mauka to makai” (from the mountains to the sea).
Our driving route takes us up the only road to cross the island, starting at sea level in "Waimea Town," winding our way along the rim of Waimea Canyon, as we head North. The road abruptly ends at two stunning lookouts, with epic views of the world famous Nā Pali Coast from over 4,000 feet above! Along the way we’ll stop at the best official & “unofficial” overlooks. There we will have our first opportunity to step into the crisp mountain to behold rainbow-colored canyon walls, including 800-foot Waipo'o Falls. The broad spectrum of vibrant reds and greens combine with swirling clouds to create an otherworldly ambiance that's unlike anything you've experienced!
Inside the park(s) is where your guide gets a chance to really show their stuff, you'll be extra grateful you chose Kauaʻi Hiking Tours! We will give you a detailed set of adventure options reflective of your group’s unique interests. Options range from long challenging hikes, worth every ounce of effort spent, to exploring the extensive network of scenic 4x4 roads that provide access to shorter trails in seldom seen corners of the park(s).
6-7 hours from Pick up to Drop off; 2.5-6.5 miles Round Trip, 600 - 2,000 ft. elevation gain; Moderate-Difficult
Accessible only by foot, our 6-7 hour, Nāpali Coast Cliff-Top Hike is designed to give you an in-depth look of the Nāpali Coast from a unique vantage point few have seen - a narrow ridge thousands of feet above the ocean! While these hikes can be muddy, slippery and strenuous, you will be amply rewarded for your effort with sweeping views of the most dramatic sections of the famous 17-mile-long Nā Pali Coastline.
We'll pick you up from your accomodation so you can meet your guide, hop into a comfortable coach, and not have to worry about driving. Driving East - West, you’ll witness a change in vegetation and climate as you transition into the “rain shadow”, characterized by the arid farmland of the island’s “leeward side” (on opposite side of mountains from typical trade wind direction). Along the way we’ll pass through the agricultural towns of Hanapēpē and Waimea and learn the important role they played in Kauai's history.
Your tour continues across the center of the island, winding along the rim of Waimea Canyon and to the North Shore, 4,000 feet (1220 m) above the spectacular Nāpali Coast. Rainbow-colored canyon walls and cool mountain air create an otherworldly ambiance that's unlike anything you've experienced.
We will stop at a couple of the choicest Waimea Canyon overlooks, including one with a view of 800 ft. Waipo’o Falls, before beginning our ridge hike from one of the trailheads in Kōkeʻe State Park. There we will enjoy jaw-dropping views of the world famous Nāpali Coast.
