Tour Highlights

Launch straight from Kailua Beach and paddle out into protected reef-lined bays, hidden coves, and offshore islands begging to be explored. This self-guided kayak rental includes everything you need for a half-day or full-day adventure, with the freedom to explore at your own pace.

  • Paddle crystal-clear Kailua Bay toward Flat Island and the Mokulua Islands

  • Follow curated route maps to prime snorkeling and wildlife-viewing spots

Quick Local Tip: Arrive at Kailua Beach before the wind shifts around late morning; the onshore breeze typically strengthens after 11 a.m., making the paddle to Flat Island or the Mokuluas noticeably harder for both beginners and seasoned kayakers.

What to Expect

Begin your adventure by picking up your kayak and gear at our storefront. Our team will assist in providing detailed instructions, foam pads, and straps to safely transport your kayak on your vehicle to Kailua Beach. You’ll also receive a map, safety tips, and optional dry bags to keep your belongings safe.

Upon arriving at Kailua Beach, set up your kayak and prepare to paddle across the sheltered waters of Kailua Bay, protected by a barrier coral reef. Beginners can enjoy a short paddle to Flat Island (Popoia), a bird sanctuary just off the coast, perfect for a gentle introduction to ocean kayaking. Along the way, you might spot sea turtles swimming beneath your kayak.

For a more ambitious outing, experienced paddlers can take the 90-minute trip to Mokulua Islands (Na Mokulua). As you glide over calm, crystal-clear waters, marvel at the vibrant coral reefs teeming with fish. Once you arrive at Mokulua Nui, land on the sandy western shore and hike the rocky perimeter to discover tide pools, the Queen’s Bath, and incredible views of the surrounding ocean. Please remember to respect the island's status as a protected bird sanctuary by staying on designated paths and giving wildlife space.

For those seeking a picturesque stop, Lanikai Beach is a stunning location to pause, relax, and soak in the views of one of Hawaii’s most celebrated shorelines.

With half-day or full-day rental options, you’ll have ample time to paddle, explore, and even snorkel around these iconic locations. When your adventure ends, simply load your kayak back onto your vehicle and return it to the meeting point.
