Take to the sky on a private, doors-on or off helicopter flight and see Oʻahu’s most iconic coastlines, craters, and valleys the way few ever do, from the best seat in the sky. With every landmark laid out beneath you and a personal pilot narrating the island’s stories, this is the most thrilling, cinematic way to experience Oʻahu in a single hour.
Quick Local Tip: As you fly over Kaneohe Bay, look for the reef halos, the pale rings surrounding patches of coral. From the air you can often see manta rays, turtles, and hammerhead sharks circling the coral heads in silhouette. They move in patterns you’d can't spot from sea level.
The flight begins at Honolulu International Airport, where you’ll be greeted by your private pilot and escorted to your helicopter. After a quick safety briefing, you’ll lift off and immediately be treated to panoramic views of Honolulu’s cityscape merging into the shimmering coastline of Waikiki. From above, you can clearly trace the gentle curve of the shoreline and spot surfers paddling out into the rolling Pacific.
Continuing east, you’ll fly past Diamond Head and Koko Head, two of Oʻahu’s most recognizable volcanic craters, their rugged forms standing in bold contrast to the turquoise waters below. The route then carries you over the cliffs of Makapuʻu Point and its iconic red-roofed lighthouse, offering sweeping views of the southeastern tip of the island.
As the helicopter veers north along the Windward Coast, look down at the powdery beaches of Kailua and Lanikai. The deep blues of the ocean here fade into the vibrant greens of coral reefs in Kaneohe Bay, with Mokoliʻi Island (also known as Chinaman’s Hat) rising from the sea like a sentinel.
Next, the tour takes you inland, across the dramatic cliffs and cinematic landscapes of Kaʻaʻawa Valley, known to many as “Jurassic Valley.” Hidden waterfalls such as Sacred Falls come into view, cascading down from the forested peaks.
Soon after, you’ll reach the legendary North Shore. From above, the breaks at Banzai Pipeline and Waimea Bay are clearly visible, especially during winter when monstrous swells roll in. This stretch of coastline is hallowed ground in the surfing world, and seeing it from above offers a whole new perspective.
The flight concludes with a poignant flyover of Pearl Harbor and the USS Arizona Memorial. From the air, the outline of the sunken battleship is visible in the water below. It's a powerful and humbling final sight before returning to the airport.
Throughout the tour, your pilot provides live narration, sharing insight into Oʻahu’s history, geology, and culture, making this more than just a sightseeing tour, it’s an unforgettable journey across the heart of Hawaiʻi.
