Glide across clear Waikiki water framed by palm trees and turquoise hues while enjoying the fun of finding your balance. With expert guidance nearby, every stroke feels smoother, more confident, and surprisingly easy.
Quick Local Tip: Pause between paddles and look straight down. Publics Beach’s large coral heads attracts turtles and tropical fish, and they often glide quietly beneath resting boards.
All SUP lessons begin at our convenient surf shop storefront located inside the Queen Kapiʻolani Hotel, just steps from the ocean. After checking in, you’ll be fitted with your paddleboard, leash, reef walkers, and rash guard. Everything you need is included.
Once outfitted, your instructor will lead a short land-based safety and technique session in Kapiolani Park fronting Public Beach, covering the basics of paddling, stance, balance, and ocean awareness. You'll then move to the water, where you’ll start practicing in a calm lagoon just off the sand before paddling out to explore the surrounding area.
Throughout the session, your instructor will offer tips, corrections, and encouragement, adjusting the lesson based on your comfort and skill level. For beginners, the focus is on mastering balance, learning to paddle efficiently, and building confidence. For more experienced participants, lessons can include advanced stroke techniques, turns, and wave riding.
Expect gentle ocean conditions, clear visibility, and, on many days, the chance to spot sea turtles and tropical fish beneath your board. Lessons last about two hours, with a balance of land instruction and water time.
Group lessons are a fun and social way to learn stand-up paddling. You’ll join a small group of fellow beginners and enjoy a supportive, lighthearted environment as you learn the basics of balance, paddle control, and navigating the ocean. These sessions are perfect for first-timers who want a shared experience and a great core workout.
Ideal for couples, families, or small groups of friends, semi-private lessons offer more personal instruction while still enjoying a shared experience. With a two-to-one student-to-instructor ratio, you'll receive detailed guidance tailored to each person’s skill level, helping everyone feel confident and supported on the water.
For the most individualized attention, private lessons provide one-on-one coaching tailored to your goals and experience. Whether you're a complete beginner, a returning paddler looking to refine your technique, or someone interested in learning to catch small waves on a paddleboard, private instruction allows for faster progress and a customized experience.
Private lessons are also required for children under 14, ensuring maximum safety and personalized instruction for younger participants.
