Sail the laid-back North Shore on a small-group catamaran and slip into clear, uncrowded reef waters to snorkel with honu, tropical fish, and the marine life that thrives just offshore.
Quick Local Tip: When you first slip into the water, the sandy bottom can look empty. That’s normal. Kick about 50 feet toward the rocky outcroppings that are sticking up from the water and the reef suddenly comes alive with turtles, fish, and healthy coral you won’t see right beneath the boat.
The tour begins at Haleiwa Harbor, where guests board the Hoʻo Nanea, a 40-foot sailing catamaran built for performance and comfort. After a warm welcome and safety briefing from the experienced crew, the boat sets off along Oʻahu’s scenic North Shore, heading toward some of the area’s most vibrant and uncrowded snorkeling sites.
As the catamaran cruises the coastline, passengers are treated to a relaxed sail with stunning views of undeveloped shoreline and open ocean. Marine life is active in these waters—green sea turtles are often seen near the shore, while Hawaiian spinner dolphins frequently approach the vessel, leaping and playing in the wake or riding along the bow. Depending on the season, humpback whales may also be spotted offshore.
Once anchored at a designated snorkeling location, guests can slip into the clear, warm waters and explore the coral reef below. The snorkel site is teeming with tropical fish and often includes up-close encounters with Hawaiian sea turtles, calmly gliding through the reef just feet away. The crew remains nearby for safety and support, and all snorkel gear is provided—though guests are welcome to bring their own.
After plenty of time in the water, everyone climbs back aboard to rinse off, relax, and enjoy a freshly prepared deli-style lunch catered by a local North Shore eatery. Cold drinks are served, and there's time to lounge on deck, soak in the sun, and chat with the crew about the marine life and surrounding coastline.
As the tradewinds pick up later in the morning, the crew raises the sails and the catamaran glides back toward Haleiwa under wind power. The return sail offers one last chance to take in the expansive ocean views, feel the sea breeze, and enjoy the thrill of sailing on the open Pacific.
