Feel the board catch the wave, push to your feet, and ride across the water with one of Oʻahu’s most famous surf coastlines around you. This is your chance to actually surf the North Shore, with an instructor in the water helping you find the right waves and get more out of every attempt.
Quick Local Tip: North Shore surf changes dramatically with the seasons, so the instructors choose between Puaʻena Point and Chun’s Reef based on the day’s conditions. Chun’s is commonly used during the smaller summer season, while protected Puaʻena Point becomes particularly valuable when winter surf builds along the North Shore.
Your lesson begins at the North Shore location selected for that day’s surf conditions. North Shore Surf Girls teaches around Haleʻiwa at Puaʻena Point and Chun’s Reef, two breaks only a few miles apart, and confirms the meeting location before your lesson.
Before heading into the water, your instructor starts on the beach with ocean safety and the basic mechanics of surfing. Learn how to position yourself on the board, paddle, pop up, and get your feet underneath you before taking those movements into the ocean.
Then it’s time to paddle out. Your instructor stays in the water with you throughout the lesson, helping with positioning, wave selection, timing, and the little corrections that make the difference between sliding off the board and suddenly feeling it accelerate beneath your feet.
And that first real ride changes things quickly. One wave turns into another chance to paddle harder, stand a little earlier, find your balance, and ride farther. The goal isn’t simply to push you into a wave for a photo, it’s to give you the fundamentals and confidence to begin understanding how surfing actually works.
By the end, paddle back toward shore with tired arms, salty hair, and the satisfaction of being able to say you didn’t just visit the North Shore...you surfed it.
