What to Expect

The lesson begins at our check-in location in Haleiwa near the WWI Memorial, where you'll meet your private instructor and get outfitted with top-quality paddle gear. After a quick introduction to the equipment, you'll review the fundamentals of stand up paddling on land including balance, paddling techniques, and turning. All of which is customized to your experience level.

From there, it's time to hit the water, where we start in a calm ocean bay before making our way up the gentle Anahulu River. The Anahulu River offers one of the calmest and most beginner-friendly paddling environments on Oahu. The river’s gentle current and glassy surface make it an ideal place to focus on your form without battling ocean waves. As you paddle upriver, lush greenery lines the banks and native wildlife surrounds you. Keep an eye out for sea turtles gliding beneath your board and tropical fish moving through the clear shallows.

Along the way, your instructor always nearby will be guiding, correcting, and encouraging you but giving you space to gain confidence. You’ll paddle beneath the iconic Rainbow Bridge and take in the slow, quiet beauty of the North Shore at your own pace.

Throughout the experience, your guide will be capturing candid moments with a waterproof camera and at the end of the tour, you’ll we'll transfer all your photos for you to take home.

The entire experience lasts about two hours, and is open to paddlers of all ages and abilities. For children under 8 or those not comfortable paddling solo, they can ride along on the same board as the instructor.

Requirements

• Please check in 10 minutes before your scheduled lesson
• Suitable for ages 4 and up (younger paddlers ride with instructor)
• No previous paddling experience required
