Quick Local Tip: On the backside of ʻIolani Palace, find the Banyan Tree Terrace, believed to have been planted around 1882 by Queen Kapiʻolani after the tree was received as a gift from Indian Royalty. At a time when native lowland trees offered little shade, its sweeping canopy created a natural gathering place for intimate ceremonies. Step beneath it and you’ll feel how history here was meant to be lived, not just observed.
What to Expect
After a brief training session, you'll be comfortably riding your own Segway before setting off through the heart of historic Honolulu. With plenty of time to practice, even first-time riders quickly gain confidence as you glide effortlessly between many of the city's most significant landmarks.
Follow your guide along the Honolulu waterfront, through Chinatown and the Capitol District, before exploring the grounds of ʻIolani Palace, the only royal palace in the United States. Along the way, you'll pass the King Kamehameha Statue, Washington Place, Kawaiahaʻo Church, and other historic sites while hearing the stories that shaped Hawaiʻi's monarchy and modern history.
The tour continues to Kakaʻako Waterfront Park, where panoramic ocean views provide a scenic contrast to downtown Honolulu. After taking in the coastline and seasonal whale sightings during the winter months, you'll cruise back along the waterfront with a new appreciation for Honolulu's rich history and vibrant culture.
