What to expect

Lessons take place at Ala Moana Beach Park in Honolulu, just outside of Waikiki, but far from the crowded surf zones. This stretch of coastline offers mellow, rolling waves and wide-open space, making it an ideal location for learning to surf in a more relaxed and supportive setting.

Your session begins onshore, where your instructor will walk you through a 30-minute land-based demonstration. You'll learn the fundamentals such as how to position yourself on the board, paddle efficiently, pop up into a stable stance, and read the rhythm of the waves. Safety, ocean awareness, and local surf etiquette are all part of the intro, ensuring you head into the water feeling prepared and confident.

Once in the ocean, the real fun begins. You’ll paddle out into calm, waist-high water, with your instructor nearby to offer guidance, encouragement, and real-time feedback. You’ll take turns catching waves, standing up, and riding them in, often multiple times during the session. The focus is always on progress, safety, and fun whether you're popping up for the first time or fine-tuning your stance.

With Ala Moana’s panoramic views of the Honolulu skyline and Diamond Head in the distance, this is more than just a surf lesson, it’s a uniquely Hawaiian experience that blends learning, culture, and the joy of riding warm Pacific waves.
