Quick Local Tip: Don’t expect chaos here. Lessons run over a quiet reef patch inside the surf breaks of “Concessions” and “Big Rights,” The outside waves reform into clean, gentle blue walls. It's real lineup waves, clean conditions, but without Waikīkī crowds.

What to expect

Learn to surf in the gentle, rolling waves of Ala Moana Beach Park, one of Oʻahu's most beginner-friendly surf breaks just outside Waikīkī. With fewer crowds and calm conditions, it's the perfect place to catch your first wave with confidence.

Your lesson begins on the beach with hands-on instruction covering paddling, popping up, ocean safety, and basic surf etiquette before heading into the water. Once you're comfortable, your instructor stays nearby, offering encouragement and personalized coaching as you paddle for waves and experience the thrill of standing up and riding across warm Pacific water.

Choose the lesson format that best fits your goals. Small group lessons provide personalized instruction with no more than four students per instructor, while private lessons offer one-on-one coaching for adults or younger children learning at their own pace. Exclusive adult lessons pair two guests with one instructor, making them a popular choice for couples, friends, and family members who want a more personalized experience.
