What to Expect

Guests meet at Ala Wai Boat Harbor for a quick check-in before boarding our nimble and highspeed 30ft Rigid Hulled Inflatable Boat "Zodiac" Boat built for fast travel and open-ocean maneuvering. Boarding is smooth and efficient, there’s no need to arrive early, but be sure to arrive on time.

Once underway, the boat cuts past the surf breaks and into deeper waters off Waikiki. With the speed and range of this private charter, your crew can explore the full southern coastline of Oʻahu, from Diamond Head to the island’s rugged western edge. This flexibility allows the captain to quickly adapt to whale movement and ocean conditions, ensuring the best possible encounter.

When humpback whales are sighted, the boat slows and engines are cut. The scene becomes calm, with only the sound of ocean swells and, if you listen closely, the powerful exhale of a surfacing whale. Guests remain at a respectful distance while observing natural behaviors—tail slaps, fin waves, spy hops, and on occasion, a dramatic full-body breach. The experience is both thrilling and deeply peaceful.

Throughout the trip, the crew shares insights into humpback migration, behavior, and biology. After the whale sightings, the return ride offers more opportunities to spot marine life such as green sea turtles, spinner dolphins, flying fish and stunning coastal views of the Koʻolau Mountains, Diamond Head, and the Waikiki skyline.

This tour runs seasonally from December through May, when humpback whales visit Hawaiʻi’s warm waters. Whale sightings are guaranteed—if none are seen, your group will be invited back for another trip (based on availability during the season).

Know Before You Go

• Dress for the ocean – Beach attire, hat, sunglasses, are best; expect to get wet even if you're not snorkeling.
• Bring only essentials – Dry storage is limited. Non-essential items are best kept at the marina.
• Health restrictions – Not suitable for Pregnant individuals, Guests with back, neck, or mobility issues
• No restroom onboard – Use marina facilities before departure. Dining tours stop at restaurants with restrooms.
• Food and drinks welcome – You may bring your own. A large onboard cooler with ice is provided.
