Push off from Waikīkī and charge into deep blue water, rods bent and reels screaming as the Renegade hunts pelagic giants just miles from shore. It’s salt spray, engine rumble, and that electric second when a marlin explodes on the line.
Quick Local Tip: When the crew yells “Hanapā‘ā!” it means fish on. Get ready fast! If it’s mahi mahi and you’re not the one reeling, watch the other lines closely; they often strike in multiples and the action can stack up quickly.
Your fishing trip begins at Kewalo Basin Harbor, located just two miles from Waikiki. After a brief check-in and safety overview, you'll board the Renegade, a 38-foot Hatteras Sportfish built for blue water adventure and offshore comfort. As the harbor falls behind, the crew sets lines and begins trolling immediately beyond the channel, scanning for bird activity, current lines, and underwater ledges where pelagic fish are known to feed.
The boat is outfitted with top-tier Shimano Tiagra rods and reels, Furuno sonar, and a Garmin chartplotter—tools that give our experienced captains and crew the edge when locating game fish like mahi mahi, ono, yellowfin tuna, and Pacific blue marlin.
Inside, Renegade offers a break from the sun and salt spray. The cabin features cushioned seating, air conditioning, a television, bunkbeds, a full marine head, and a freshwater shower. Whether you’re taking a breather or keeping an eye on the trolling spread, there’s always a comfortable place to relax between bites.
Depending on the bite and sea conditions, your catch could range from a few pounds to several hundred. You're welcome to keep half of any fish up to 100 lbs. Fish over 100 lbs remain with the boat, but private charter guests may choose to keep their full catch for an additional fee. The crew also offers trophy mount options through Gray’s Taxidermy if you land a fish worth remembering forever.
As the trip winds down, the lines come in and the boat heads back toward Oahu’s south shore. With the Honolulu skyline rising ahead and the ocean behind, you’ll return to harbor with fresh memories, new fishing stories, and hopefully, a few fillets ready to cook or freeze.
On shared charters, anglers are typically grouped in pairs or small groups. Rod assignments are drawn randomly as the boat leaves the harbor, and after each fish is fought, rods rotate clockwise to keep the playing field fair, just in case one lure or side of the boat is hotter than the others.
