Quick Local Tip: During late afternoon, the low sun shoots golden beams sideways through the water lighting up the reef like a spotlight. It’s the most photogenic moment of the whole cruise, so linger by the glass panels as the sun gets close to the horizon.
What to Expect
The cruise begins at Kewalo Basin Harbor, just west of Waikiki, where the Haleiwa Queen boards guests for a sunset ride along Oʻahu’s South Shore. As the boat glides past the coastline, the city begins to glow with golden-hour light. Lēʻahi (Diamond Head) fades into silhouette, while the buildings of downtown Honolulu reflect soft pinks and oranges from the sky.
Throughout the cruise, guests can look down through the glass viewing panels to see the ocean floor below. As daylight dims, lights under the vessel illuminate the surrounding water, attracting reef fish and other marine life toward the viewports, a unique nighttime twist that makes the reef visible even after sunset. It's common to spot schools of fish circling, and occasionally, a sea turtle or shy reef shark drifting into view.
During whale season (November–May), humpback whales may be seen offshore, sometimes breaching against the horizon or heard vocalizing below the boat.

BREATH TAKING!!!! the Two gentlemen running the sunset tour on the 17th were Amazing! The music, and the incredible sunset along with seeing the sea life made for the best birthday EVER!!!
