The 4x4 Off-Road Hawaiian Jungle Adventure By:  North Shore Eco Tours

Hold on to your seats and get ready to hoot and holler – you’re about to take on the Pua’a Māiki! Board the world-renowned Swiss Military Pinzgauer all-terrain vehicle and ready yourself for a cultural adventure! This off-road expedition treks through one of Hawaiʻi’s most sacred and fabled places, Waimea Valley, to uncover an exhilarating past of ancient Hawaiian history.

Travel back in time as we visit one of Oʻahu’s last heiau (Hawaiian temple) while your expert Native Hawaiian Guiderelates a spellbinding oral tradition of folklore and mythology.

Guests will venture deep into the back valleys of Oʻahu’s North Shore while enjoying an array of rugged terrain and wild natural landscapes. Tackle lush jungle trails and climb open windswept ridgelines all from the comfort of your high-stanced, open-aired Pinzgauer. Revel in ʻāina (nature) as you witness rare native plants and take in stunning panoramic views of mountain & coastline from a private mountain overlook!

And if that’s not enough, your off-road adventure also includes admission to Waimea Valley park! That’s right, enjoy the valley’s world-class botanical garden and historic sites and take a swim in the famous Waimea Falls (Waihi)! Only 8 seats available – Reserve yours today!

  • Each tour is limited to only 8 seats – so don’t hesitate. Leave the Waikīkī asphalt in “concrete-landia” and get ready to experience Oahu’s North Shore back country with the incomparable Pinzgauer ATV!

Caution: Dress accordingly, conditions can include rain or sunshine, cool mountain breezes or high humidity...please DON'T wear your favorite aloha shirt! Also be advised that this is a rough, 2.5 hour 4x4, ride with sudden jerky movements caused by rough roads. Therefore, we do not recommend this tour for people with back or neck problems and/or women who are pregnant. All guests are required to sign a waiver and release form prior to the start of their tour.

The Vehicle

Our Swiss Military Pinzgauers are true all-terrain vehicles that turn any tour into full flung “Hawaiian Safaris”! Pinzgauers are the best off-roading ATVs out there, they are open-aired and quite simply, unstoppable. Rumble up the flank of O’ahu’s Koʻolau Mountain, trek across verdant hillsides, and behold incredible views. Sit back and relax as your expert guide negotiates the trail and provides a remarkable narrative of O’ahu culture and ʻāina (nature). And since we operate on private property, you’re guaranteed to have it all to yourself.

  • Considered by many to be the best off-road vehicle ever produced, surpassing even the Hummer in maneuverability and reliability tests, the Pinzgauer is designed to excel in the most extreme conditions on earth. The Pinzgauer is also notorious for its quality craftsmanship. With only 1,300 vehicles produced each year these are essentially hand-made, low production, high quality machines. As a result, despite its high sticker price, it has become the vehicle of choice for many militaries around the world.

  • These once exclusive military ATVs have now become the jewel of the off-road enthusiast world. Features Include: full independent suspension for smoother ride both on and off road; front and rear lockers for true 4-wheel drive that can be engaged on the fly; air-cooled engines for greater reliability and lighter overall weight; portal axles for maximum ground clearance (13.9 in. at lowest point); a departure angle of 45 degrees for both front and rear; a water fording depth of 2.5 feet without a snorkel kit; and the list goes on and on. With only an estimated 4,500 first generation Pinzgauers in the U.S. today, they are quite rare indeed. Therefore, to find a Pinzgauer in Hawai’i is no doubt “Super-Duper Cool” but to actually have the chance to ride one with the backdrop of tropical mountains and blue seas…well, it just doesnʻt get any better than that.
